While our medical programmes in some countries have components dealing with HIV/AIDS, we have four countries where HIV/AIDS is a specific and focused programme.
In these countries, you will be working with HIV/AIDS activists and organisations that we have partnered with in the major cities. Together with local volunteers, you will work very closely with patients at private homes, hospitals and specialised HIV centres. The programme gives volunteers an opportunity to have direct contact with the communities for education and to meet patients for counselling as well as distribution of food and drugs. In this programme, volunteers can also join the health team for a public awareness campaign and distribution of condoms.
Awareness is a huge issue when it comes to HIV/AIDS, so volunteers will be involved in educational and training activities meant to increase awareness helping to stop the spread of the epidemic.
